Q&A with Jonathan Chua, Intern at Maxwell Chambers
Jonathan Chua, 21, joined Maxwell Chambers for an internship as part of his Diploma course in Infocomm and Network Engineering at Temasek Polytechnic. We spoke to him about his work achievements and experiences.
Tell us more about what you did at Maxwell Chambers.
I was involved in IT operations from April to August 2018. I was pretty much thrown into the deep end of the pool as the IT executive was about to go on extended leave, so I had to learn everything within that period. There were times when I had to work overtime. It was tiring but fun at the same time. I’m thankful I had the opportunity to have been in the position.
Can you tell us more about the IT project you worked on as well?
For the project, I got some inspiration from the first two months when I was involved in IT operations. Back then, I was still quite new and I didn’t really know where the equipment was kept and how it was managed. There was no proper structure in place to manage it, so I came up with an idea to create a web page to manage and track all the AV and IT inventory. I created the AV inventory management system which has already been implemented and used by the IT and AV department.
What would you say helped improve your internship experience?
I helped out in most aspects of the company’s operations, such as Customer Service and the setting up of AV equipment, to name a few. I’ve gained valuable experience in these different areas of work, and not just in programming and IT.
What have you learnt during your time at Maxwell Chambers?
Aside from the Operations aspect, I’ve also learnt about workplace habits and culture. It was a whole new experience to manage expectations of different levels of management. It was fun and an eye-opener to be part of the team as well as to be exposed to both the good and not so good.
Tell us about a particularly memorable positive experience.
I would say there is not just one experience but in general, it was quite satisfying to get good feedback or positive reviews from clients, especially since we don’t normally interact with them directly. Also, my colleagues here at Maxwell Chambers are a pleasure to work with.
In 3 words, describe your internship experience.
Enriching, exciting, busy (but in a good way!).
