Q&A With Vadim, Owner of Fusion Dumplings
We are pleased to announce the opening of the newest F&B addition to Maxwell Chambers, Fusion Dumplings! The cafe specialises in Russian / Ukrainian-style dumplings and savouries, dessert and barista-made coffee. We spoke to the owner, Vadim, to find out more about their unique food offerings.
How did Pelmeni House/Fusion Dumplings come about in Singapore?
We have been living here for more than 15 years and sharing our food with friends for eight years. We decided to share our menu and dishes with the public after receiving positive feedback from our friends and colleagues.
Singapore is not only a hub for finance, shipping and IT business, but also for the food industry. With people from so many different countries living here, almost every one is represented by its cuisine.
Tell us more about the food and cuisine you serve.
Our menu is based on Russian/Ukrainian cuisine, or in more generic terms, Slavic / eastern European cuisine. However, most of our menu items are quite international, such as dumplings and salads.
Why did you decide to focus on dumplings specifically?
Dumplings are known to everyone. Almost every nation has its own version with bit of difference but the concept is still the same – meat / veggie fillings wrapped in the dough skin. In China it’s Jiaozi or wonton, in Japan – gyoza, in Italy – ravioli, in Russia – Pelmeni, or Ukraine – varenki, all called dumplings. You cannot go wrong with them. Nice food with short preparation time that will suit anyone’s taste.
Your favourite dish on the menu?
Our best seller is the beer dumplings. Our customers have 11 different fillings to choose from. Apart from dumplings we do few soups, with Borsh being the most known soup.
I prefer cold summer soup with a name that is difficult to pronounce – okroshka, which contains fresh veggies. It’s very refreshing in Singapore’s hot weather.
