Ban Jiun Ean

CHIEF EXECUTIVE

Ban Jiun Ean read law at the National University of Singapore before joining the Ministry of Law. He spent nine years doing legal policy work, with a focus on the development of Singapore’s alternative dispute resolution (ADR) industry. 

Jiun Ean spearheaded the development of the world’s first integrated dispute resolution centre, Maxwell Chambers, which brought together arbitral institutions, service providers and legal practitioners under the same roof in a facility equipped with bespoke dispute resolution rooms and state-of-the-art supporting technology. In 2010, he was appointed Chief Executive of Maxwell Chambers, helming the company for five years and establishing it as the foremost dispute resolution centre of its kind in the world. In 2016, he left Maxwell to pursue several other projects, including the development of an arts centre and to write several novels. In 2019, Jiun Ean was appointed as the Executive Director of Singapore Mediation Centre (SMC), working to strengthen the mediation industry in Singapore and globally. 

Jiun Ean returns to Maxwell Chambers as Chief Executive, to augment the team as it continues to build on Maxwell’s position as the premier ADR facility in the world.

Katherine Yap

CHIEF EXECUTIVE

Katherine Yap was one of the pioneer visionaries who spearheaded the establishment of Maxwell Chambers in Singapore. She also championed the expansion of Maxwell Chambers new building premise, Maxwell Chambers Suites, in August 2019. Katherine also jointly led Maxwell Chambers through the co-founding of the IACA (International Arbitration Centre Alliance), advocating the use of virtual and hybrid ADR hearings globally.  

Fore fronting all facets of the business, Katherine has over 13 years of experience driving sales growth, leading transformation and advocating innovation in the ADR arena. Her tenacity has attributed to the successful advancement and stronghold that Maxwell Chambers continues to hold across the ADR landscape.  

Katherine further adds to her comprehensive portfolio in the ADR landscape through her certification as an Associate Mediator at the Singapore Mediation Centre, Master Mediator for the Community Mediation Centre and Mediator for the Singapore International Mediation Institution. She is also on the Panel of Mediators with Beihai Asia International Arbitration Centre and Executive Committee of the Society of Mediation Professionals (Singapore). She has over 9 years of experience in Mediation and actively presides over mediation cases with the CMC.  

Katherine holds a Master of Business Administration and Marketing. 

Karen Tan

Karen Tan is the Chief Strategy Officer at Maxwell Chambers. She spearheads new initiatives and thought leadership projects at Maxwell Chambers as it continues to expand its services that are complementary to its existing physical and digital business.

Prior to joining Maxwell Chambers, Karen was the Business Development Director at Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre (HKIAC). During her ten years at HKIAC, Karen was instrumental in all its business development initiatives. Her contributions include not only the creation of the Hong Kong Arbitration Week, she also implemented HKIAC’s digital transformation by pivoting its offerings to support virtual hearings and help launched HKIAC Case Digest. Karen worked with leading organisations such as UNCITRAL-RCAP and ICCA in their outreach to facilitate judicial trainings around the region; as well as AALCO and other governmental bodies in Asia in their capacity building efforts to promote arbitration. Karen has also collaborated closely with arbitral institutions to promote the field of mediation and domain name dispute resolution around the world. 

Karen previously worked in Japan and was responsible for promoting Niseko, Japan as a tourist destination. 

Karen holds a BS in Business Administration and is admitted to practice law in Hong Kong.

Gary Chee

Gary Chee is the Director of Information Technology at Maxwell Chambers. As Head of IT, he oversees the strategy, sets the agenda and ensures operation efficiency of the technology team. He works closely with management to drive the digital realization of Maxwell 2.0 transformation plan.

Gary is passionate about innovation and digital transformation that empowers employees, engaging clients and optimize operation in Maxwell Chambers.

Gary holds an MBA and has more than 20 years of experience in consulting, program management, operations management and building agile technology teams across technology firms, global MNCs and the government institution.

Angelaine Lim

Angelaine Lim is the Head of Finance at Maxwell Chambers.

With more than 10 years of experience at the Singapore International Arbitration Centre (SIAC), Angelaine is no stranger to the ADR industry. As their Finance & HR Director, she had played a key role in leading the team on various important projects and ensuring that daily operations are smooth in the Finance & HR department.

Effectively bilingual, Angelaine holds a Bachelor of Business Administration (Accounting) and has professional qualifications from ACCA.

Cassandra Anthonisz

Cassandra Gayle Anthonisz is the Deputy Manager of Legal and Business Services at Maxwell Chambers. Her multifaceted experience spans across legal, business development, and communications sectors, offering a distinctive combination of legal acumen, strategic insight, and cross-sector versatility.

Her professional background encompasses legal affairs, compliance, business development, and legal technology. She has held in-house positions across sectors, where she gained extensive experience navigating complex legal and regulatory environments. Her experience spans the implementation of strategic legal frameworks in sectors such as maritime, commodities, and fintech, with a focus on client-facing legal operations; contractual negotiations; contentious and non-contentious work.

Prior to joining Maxwell Chambers, Cassandra led legal technology start-ups through the unprecedented challenges of the Covid-19 pandemic. In these capacities, she integrated legal innovation with corporate strategy, while spearheading business development initiatives and cross-border legal solutions.

Cassandra has a passion for advancing access to justice and to promoting forward-thinking and progressive business-aligned legal practices. She holds a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) from Birmingham City University in the United Kingdom, and is currently pursuing a Master of Laws (LLM).
